Soccer Fields named for Fallen US Soldier

Families gathered for J.S. Hovnanian & Sons' dedication of brand new soccer fields adjacent to the Estates at Aberdeen. CLAYTON, NJ— On Saturday, September 6 at 11 am The Borough of Clayton along with the Clayton Veteran’s Committee dedicated a new soccer complex in honor of local resident Army PFC David J. Bentz, III, known as DJ, who was killed in action supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 20, 2007.
An avid soccer fan, DJ grew up playing in the Borough’s soccer program as well as during his four years at Clayton High School. He shared his passion for the sport with the Iraqi children, giving them soccer balls and playing the game with them. He was referred to as a hero among his fellow comrades for saving the life of another soldier days before his death. According to his Mother (insert name), “DJ believed in his mission and felt he was fighting for a good cause.”
In an effort to pay tribute to DJ for his heroic efforts in Iraq and celebrate his love of soccer, The Borough and Veteran’s Committee felt it fitting to dedicate the new soccer complex as “The DJ Bentz Memorial Soccer Complex.”
The soccer complex was constructed by South Jersey home builder J.S. Hovnanian & Sons as part of their Estates at Aberdeen community, and then donated to the Borough. It features six soccer fields complete with lighting and a concession stand.
A dedication ceremony took place at the new complex on East Academy Road with participation from local dignitaries, elected officials, representatives of J.S. Hovnanian & Sons and members of the Bentz family. Afterwards, the soccer fields were presented to the Clayton Soccer Association to kick-off the opening of the 2008 soccer season.
